In Boundary Road, Brett dramatises the story of his adolescence growing up with his Koori mates to demonstrate the themes of civil rights and the human rights' movement.

'You know even after slavery the African-Americans weren't allowed off the plantations without written permission,' Brett says to his Koori mate as they're running up an old country road.

Brett's Koori mate shakes his head, 'Is that right, Hunty?'

'Yeah,' Brett replied, 'and they weren't even allowed to speak their own language and play their own music.'

Brett's Koori mate keeps running.

'Yeah,' says Brett. 'Heaps of that happened. That's where the blues music came from.'

'Hunty?'

'Yeah?'

'We're running on Boundary Road, mate.'

'So, as if I didn't know that.'

'There's lots you don't know, Hunty, but maybe one day, eh?'

Brett's home town of Bega is the custodial lands of the Djiringanj people of the Yuin nation. Brett grew up in the shadow of Biamanga (Mumbulla Mountain), a deeply sacred site of initiation and ceremony.

Boundary Road is the story of awakening to the history of colonial dispossession and the long fight for civil rights.

The story, filled with music and soundscapes, includes civil rights in Australia and America, the development of the human rights movement as it gained momentum after World War II, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the document created to provide an international framework to protect those rights.
